Senator Catherine Noone has stated that Dublin’s Aviva Stadium hosting of the 2013 Heineken Cup Final is a “great coup for both the stadium and the city”.
Speaking this morning, Senator Noone said that “this will, no doubt, improve tourism in the capital and, as was seen in Cardiff, will be an occasion when people will be keen to spend money and enjoy the weekend”.
With a note of humour, Catherine noted that “it wouldn’t necessarily be in tourism’s best interest for another Leinster-Munster final. And it may not be in Munster’s best interest either”.
Catherine continued that “based on statistics from ERC, the organisers of the Heineken Cup, we can see that in Edinburgh in 2009, £25 million pounds was spent in the Heineken Cup final”.
As such, I’m excited by the prospect of this event for Dublin – and hope that the DCC, Failte Ireland, IRFU and others will come together, take a holistic approach, and create a whole weekend of activity so that our visitors get the most out of the weekend”, Catherine concluded.
