Update From Senator Catherine Noone

This Week In The Seanad – This week in the Seanad we debated a number of issues including the Customs Bill 2015, the Statute Law Revisions Bill 2015, the National Minimum Wage Bill 2015, and the Children (Amendment) Bill 2015 as well as Statements on Health Services for People with Intellectual Disabilities and Statements on the National Drugs Strategy – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/05/28/this-week-in-the-seanad-46/

Sugary Drinks Warning Labels Proposed In California – Last week, I called for all sugary drinks sold in Ireland to carry compulsory warning labels. This week it emerged that a parallel debate has taken place in California on the same matter. According to several international health experts, sugar has become as dangerous to health as alcohol or tobacco – especially for the health of young people – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/05/28/sugary-beverages-should-carry-warnings/

Ban On Gift Voucher Expiry Dates Good For Consumers, But Businesses Need Assurances – This week, I spoke about Minister Bruton’s proposal to abolish voucher expiration dates as part of a number of changes to come about as part of a Consumer Rights Bill. However, I do feel as though there need to be assurances for businesses, as it wouldn’t seem right that vouchers would forever exist on the balance sheet of a business as a liability at full value indefinitely – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/05/28/abolition-of-voucher-expirations-good-for-consumers/

Kind regards.

Yours sincerely,
