Weekly Update From Senator Catherine Noone

This Week In The Seanad – This week in the Seanad we had on the Urban Regeneration and Housing Bill 2015 as well as the Defence Bill 2015 and the Environment Bill 2014 as well as the Gender Recognition Bill 2014. You can see the full schedule here – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/07/16/thisweekintheseanad1111/

Time For Real Poster Limits – This week I proposed that we impose real limits on the number of posters erected per constituency per candidate in each election. In an Irish Times report this morning, it was emphasised once again how increasingly expensive and inaccessible politics is becoming for people. The average candidate spent almost €19,000 on General Election campaigns in 2011 – much of which would have gone on posters, which is why I am calling for a limit on these, as I believe it would level the playing field and, ultimately, be in line with what people are always calling for: less posters – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/07/16/time-for-real-poster-restrictions/

Public Meeting On Childhood Obesity – On 29th July, I will be having a meeting on childhood obesity. It will be held in The Halfway House, on the topic of The Future of Our Children’s Health with Brenda Cassidy, a Child Fitness Expert and Camile Loftus, Special Advisor to Minister James Reilly and is arising from my recent work on this topic which you can read more about here – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/07/09/fitnesstest/
