Update From Senator Catherine Noone

This Week In The Seanad – This week in the Seanad we had a debate on the Children First Bill 2014 as well as the Children (Amendment) Bill 2015 and the Environment Bill 2014. You can see the full schedule here – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/07/23/this-week-in-the-seanad-50/

Children’s Sugar Intake Is Three Times Too High – This week I highlighted how nutrition advisers have recommended that governments halve the added sugar limit to just 5% of daily calorie intake. This is around six teaspoons of sugar and the same recommendation the World Health Organisation has been campaigning for. In effect, that’s less than one can of Coke, which contains 8 teaspoons or 140% of the recommended daily intake. Children’s sugar intake is three times above what it ought to be, and we need urgent measures on this http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/07/23/childrens-sugar-intake-is-three-times-too-high-time-for-urgent-measures/

Children First Bill – On Tuesday, ahead of my meeting on The Future of Our Children’s Health, I spoke on the Children First Bill 2014. I am glad to see this Government taking the rights of children seriously, and this Bill continues to build on the work which has been achieved throughout this term of Government. You can read my comments on the matter here – http://catherinenoone.ie/2015/07/23/children-first-bill/
