Impacts on Health Should Be a Focal Point of Future Transport Policy

I have called for health implications to be considered in all future transport policy developments.

By taking into account the impact of transport on health we can improve standards of transport services and encourage positive transport habits.

We are making progress on facing the environmental challenges facing our transport systems, however, I believe that including a Health Impact Assessment in proposed transport developments we can deliver an improved situation that will serve us all.

This will include aspects such as noise pollution, air pollution, among others. Moreover, working in tandem with active travelling solutions such as cycle ways, we can encourage more people to take up healthy travel options.

This will ultimately lead to a lowering of mortality rates and save health services much needed resources.

This will help future proof our transport system at a time when Ireland faces significant health challenges, these changes can have dramatic impacts on the future wellbeing of our people and our land.
