Coolock School Fire Devastating for the Local Community

I have extended my sympathies to all those affected by Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní fire in Coolock overnight.

This is a heart-breaking development that has occurred overnight in Coolock. While the fire has been extinguished, the situation is still developing as the scene is being investigated.

The Minister for Education, Joe McHugh has met with the school’s principal and the staff to discuss this situation. Department of Education officials are also in close contact with school officials and are in discussion as to what can be done to make the school operational once more, however no decisions have been made yet.

Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní will remain closed while investigations are carried out by the relevant authorities.

Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní, hosts 200 pupils and this news will come as a huge blow and source of concern for students, parents and teachers alike. I will be working to ensure that all resources that are needed are provided to make sure that clarity can be brought to the situation.

As this situation develops we must be thankful that there were no fatalities as a result of the fire.

I would also like to thank our courageous Gardai and Fire services who were quick to respond to the situation and brought the blaze under control. Their efforts prevented even more damage.
